Would You Pull Your Own Teeth?

dental extraction - no panic Royalty Free Stock PhotoDid you know that there are people who actually try to extract their own teeth?  This may sound odd and even stupid but a toothache pain can make anyone do rash things in order to get relief. And while experiencing this pain they are compelled to do anything to make it stop and I mean anything.  An abscess or a very bad cavity is among the worst of the toothache pain family.

Before dentists and anaesthesia's, people would get drunk by drinking a lot of alcohol to numb the pain and then pull teeth out with pliers themselves.   These days we have local anaesthesia and pulling a tooth yourself would get you more pain than you can imagine.

There are times when it is acceptable to pull teeth.

1. Baby teeth can be pulled at a certain age but check first to see if the tooth is wiggling or appears loose these are indications that you can pull it out.   If however you pull the tooth and it turns in to an abscess you could be in real trouble and need to visit the dentist as quickly as possible.

2. Having a severe case of gum disease can tend to make the bone and socket become extremely decayed and destroy the tooth; it is then quite acceptable to pull the tooth. Although unbearable to the touch the tooth should be extremely loose and come out easily.

If you notice that you have a loose tooth and have gum disease be very careful how you pull your tooth as you could possible break it and end up having to visit the dentist to cut out the remainder still lodged in your gum.

Too many people make the mistake of thinking that a tooth can be pulled because it is loose.  Teeth are very fragile and pulling them out with a pair of pliers could be taking you down a very dangerous road.
Putting pliers in your mouth can also cause infection so it is advisable that instead of using pliers visit your dentist for a professional assessment and extraction.    Abscesses should never be dealt with at home the dentist will prescribe the proper medication to administer to stop the infection.

Dealing with an extraction is a job for the professionals so avoid potential problems and visit your dentist when you have a toothache.    Pulling your own teeth is painful and should never be attempted even if the pain is severe.    The dentist will take care of any pain you have and treat any infection you may have before or after an extraction.

Visiting the dentist regular for checkups and practicing good dental hygiene is a no brainier for successful tooth care.
